For the second year running, the Westminster Under School table tennis squad, led by the exceptional performances of Luka and Leonardo, made a major impact on the IAPS table tennis championships.
In a fiercely competitive field of sixty-four participants, the WUS table tennis squad once again showcased their prowess, securing the silver and bronze medals in the Under 13 section at the IAPS championships. This marked the second consecutive year of outstanding achievement, as the team edged tantalisingly close to an all-Westminster final.
As the knockout stage unfolded, the WUS players delivered performances brimming with determination and skill. In a nail-biting quarter-final clash, Luka emerged triumphant, earning his place in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Leonardo navigated through a tense encounter, ultimately dispatching his opponent with a mix of finesse and nerve.
In the semi-finals, both WUS players exhibited scintillating form against formidable opponents. While Leonardo secured a place in the final with his composed play, Luka’s journey culminated in a hard-fought battle for third place, ultimately claiming the bronze medal in a fiercely contested playoff.
The WUS squad’s success extended beyond individual accolades, with notable performances from Pranit, Hugh, and Jayme, who secured significant victories throughout the tournament. Their achievements underscored the depth of talent within the squad, forged through a rigorous qualification process that tested the skills of a twenty-strong U14 contingent.
In the Under 11 category, promising talents emerged in the form of Jeremy, Austin, Jack, and Julian, who showed great promise and amassed an impressive 12 victories between them. More importantly, they gained much experience in a tournament they are almost certain to return to next year, setting the stage for a bright future for the WUS table tennis squad.
