Every pupil’s chance to lead
January 16, 2025

Each term, a new Head Boy is selected to represent and work with the prefect team, giving all pupils a chance to take on leadership roles and serve the school community.

Leadership is nurtured through every experience, where every pupil has the opportunity to grow, contribute, and inspire others. This term, Jamie from Year 8 steps into the role and shares his perspective on leadership, service, and his commitment to supporting the school community.

‘Throughout my time at WUS, I have been fortunate enough to participate in a variety of activities and held a few leadership positions. I am in the WUS swim squad, played in the 1st XI cricket team and was the captain of the 1st XI football team last term. In addition, I have led many ensembles as the school drummer.

At the end of Year 7, a prefect team was elected by both staff and students, with eight of us initially selected; recently, we welcomed two additional prefects. As a team, we take on various duties, such as presenting different topics in assemblies and during church services. Each term, a Head Boy is appointed to lead the prefect team, and for this Lent term, I have been given the privilege to do so.

It is an honour to be chosen for this role of responsibility at such a wonderful and prestigious school. With the support of the prefect team, I hope to continue in the proud traditions of my predecessors and use the leadership skills that I have gained to represent my school to the best of my ability.’

As Jamie takes on the role as Head Boy this term, he reflects the values of service and responsibility that are central to the school community. With each pupil given the opportunity to contribute, the school fosters an environment where everyone can grow and make a positive impact.
